ABOUT MUYIWA BAMGBOSE ACADEMY

As part of our commitment to the UN sustainable development goals, particularly GOAL4 on Quality Education, JCI Ibadan is committed to contributing significantly to safeguard the future of Oyo state. This inspired our decision to organise a one week intensive active citizenship, leadership and mentorship training academy known as the JCI MUYIWA BAMGBOSE ACADEMY (MBA) for student leaders in Oyo State.

MBA was debuted in September 2016, admitting 118 prefects who represented 30 government schools within Oyo State, followed by 137 prefects in September 2017. At the Academy, participants were trained on modules including and not limited to Leadership, Civic Responsibility, Citizenship, Personal Development, Commitment to Charity, Volunteering and Time Management. A significant aspect of the Academy was the assignment of mentors to each participant to monitor their scholarly activities.

The academy is set to hold during the long holiday so that the scholars resume duties as prefects with fresh vigor from the academy.

The Academy is structured to hold annually for selected prefects of secondary schools in different local governments in Oyo State, starting with Ibadan. The Academy is in form of a one-week intensive boarding camp for maximum impact, and admission is free for selected students. Candidates will thereafter be mentored for a period of one year, after which they are expected to also take up mentorship roles for subsequent candidates.

The goals of the MBA are:

To encourage excellence in leadership

To improve overall academic performance both in local school examinations and national examination

To inspire commitment to active citizenship by individual students

To inspire positive change in character and personality formation

To promote social responsibility and accountability.
